Dorovinis Country Houses

Vassilis and Ioanna Dorovinis, experts in the protection of Greek Environment and Heritage, have been engaged in a cultural-green tourism project in the historic village of Anatoli, municipality of Ierapetra, Southeastern Crete, Greece.

The semi deserted village of ANATOLI was not chosen by chance. It has the characteristics of a common, semi mountainous traditional village of last century, with simple, severe stone houses, that are tied up together and adjusted to the rocky environment in a unique and marvelous way. The landscape reminds Santorini for the stunning views to the sea and Monemvassia for the rocky formations.

The project aimed at the restoration of simple, common looking, dilapidated houses, which could become distinguished models of traditional houses, through fine restoration interventions.

Three (3) houses, PASIPHAE and SMARAGDA, have already been restored in an exemplary way, combining the lost qualities of traditional home architecture with modern facilities and luxury. Two (2) other adjacent houses, in the old market street, have been joined and converted into a luxury Sitting-Coffee and Restaurant Lounge, the "MESOHORIA", with Open Bar on the terraces and stunning views to the sea. Six (6) other ruins located at various and unique places of the village were to be restored as vacation houses and one of them as an Art Shop, while an olive groove lot of 750 m2 (at the borders of the village with stunning views to the sea), was to be converted into a Mediterranean Garden with swimming pool, spa, beauty facilities and open air Jacuzzi.

Today the project is seeking to be undertaken by a private investor, while the ruins are offered for sale and restoration as vacation houses.

Houses PASIPHAE and SMARAGDA 

The village, a very old settlement from Venetian times, has kept its historic character and is being rapidly renovated as a unique vacation resort. With 600m altitude, surrounded by wild countryside, gigantic rock formations and natural spring waters, has been famous from past times for its healthy, dry climate.
The location is ideal for its peaceful environment with cool microclimate in the summer, the splendid views to the Libyan Sea and the proximity to beautiful sandy beaches of eastern Crete.

The semi mountainous landscape of this village is different from the sea landscape and worth visiting.

Its formation is very picturesque combining olive trees groves, sculptured rock formations and spectacular views to the sea. Before the construction of the main road the villagers used paths that are still preserved, to go to neighboring villages, to their cemetery, to agricultural land and in 4 little Byzantine churches in the vicinity of the village. One of these paths (leading from Anatoli to Kalamafka in old times) has been lately cleared and restored till the Dryes tavern (starts above Manolis tavern). All these places are of outstanding beauty and make excellent walks and excursions for families and couples.

In the above prices is included

1) A welcoming food basket with emphasis on local biological products ( milk, eggs, cheese, ham, bread, honey and marmalades, butter etc.). Ground coffee and teas as well as all kind of spices are found on the kitchen shelves of the houses. A bottle of olive oil and "raki" (the local alcoholic beverage) are also a courtesy of the house
2) Central heating and firewood from November to April
3) Cleaning and linen changing twice a week

Cancellation: if cancelled or modified up to 30 days before date of arrival, no fee will be charged. If cancelled or modified later, 30% of all nights will be charged. In case of on-show, the total price of the reservation will be charged.
