Municipality of Lefkada is one of the most famous tourist destinations in Greece and has thousands of visitors from all over the world. Lefkada is an island in Ionian Sea and belongs to the island complex of Eptanisa (which means Seven Islands). It is located between Corfu and Kefalonia. It is located really close to the shores of west Greece. A very thin line of sea separates Lefkada from Akarnania and a floating bridge, with length of 50 meters, connects them.

The climate of the island is Mediterranean, with main features the long sunshine, the mild but rainy winter and the hot summer which is pleasant due the chill breeze of the wind. The territory of Lefkada is 70% mountainous. It has high mountains with their centre peak Staurota (1.182 m.), Elati (1.126 m. ), Ai Lias (1.014 m.) and Meya Oros (1.012m.). In the west side, which is steep, are located a lot of long sandy beaches. It also has narrow plateaus, fruitful valleys and canyons with rich vegetation while it has remarkable flora that includes olive trees, cypress trees, a variety of pine trees and a special variety of oak, herbs and rare flowers.

The island has a lot of springs, like the famous spring of Kerasia in Sivro, streams that once were impetuous and now are forming small waterfalls like Demosaris in Nidri and wonderful canyons like those of Melissa in Sfakiotes and Haradiatikon. The two laggons, in the northern side of the island, are important fenlands with a wide variety of birds.
